There are 3 “Safe Zones” “S” around the “Court”. One inside the “T” at the “Court's” center and one at each base corner. When the player in possession of the ball places both feet or touches the ball to the ground inside a “Safe Zone”, no attacking play can be made on the ball or player. Defensive team members (within the boundaries of the “Court”) must retreat 1m from the “Safe Zone” immediately to allow the player to continue game play unhindered. If a player is out of bounds this does not apply so long as no move is made against the attacking player. This includes striking the ball or blocking passes.
An attacking player is only allowed to remain in the “Safe Zone” for a maximum of 3 seconds before they ‘must’ release the ball or exit the “Safe Zone”. The 3 seconds begin from the moment the player has both feet or the ball grounded inside the “Safe Zone”. Once a player has left a “Safe Zone” they may not re-enter it straight away. A "Minor Foul" (Safe Zone) will be called against any player who does not obey the “Safe Zone” rules.
